Panel to study cement issues

A committee has been formed at the behest of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce to look into the causes of the ongoing cement shortage in Qatar and recommend ways to prevent such crises in future. A decision to set up a panel with representatives from trade and industry was taken after a group of businessmen and company officials met the Minister of Economy and Commerce, H E Sheikh Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Thani to discuss the cement crisis here yesterday.

Present was Salem Butti Al Nuaimi, chairman of the board of directors of Qatar National Cement Company (QNCC), the larger of the two cement producers in the country. He told the stormy meet that the crisis would soon be resolved by his company. Representatives from a number of cement importing firms, construction and contracting companies, readymix and block-making companies attended the meeting. The minister stressed that the problem would be resolved as early as possible.
