Canada’s St. Lawrence Cement Group Inc it has been denied a key zoning application to build a cement plant in New York state to replace an older one in nearby Catskill.
The company said New York’s Department of State had said late on Tuesday the replacement plant would not be consistent with its coastal zone policies.
The Montreal-based company said it was disappointed with the decision and would consider its options.
St. Lawrence Cement had been working on getting permits for the replacement plant in Greenport, New York for several years. The plant would replace an older one in nearby Catskill.
