Chilanga Boss Coutler deportation revoked
14 February 2005

The Zambian Ministry of Home Affairs has reversed the deportation of Chilanga Cement managing director Ian Coutler.  Ministry of Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Peter Mumba announced in a statement yesterday that the minister, Dr Kalombo Mwansa had with immediate effect revoked the deportation of Mr Coutler.  Mr Mumba said the revocation of the deportation was as a result of the appeal made by Chilanga Cement after the decision by the State to bar Mr Coutler from entering Zambia.

"After carefully analysing the appeal, the minister has invoked his powers in accordance with Section 24(2) of the Immigration and Deportation Act Chapter 123," he said.  Mr Mumba said Mr Coutler was now free to return to Zambia, as he was no longer a prohibited immigrant.
