Ghacem to utilise local limestone

Ghacem to utilise local limestone
02 November 2004

Ghana Cement Works (GHACEM) is now using limestone from Yongwa in the Eastern Region to produce cement. This is a new cement standard approved by the Ghana Standards Board which allows the use of local limestone for cement production. As a result, the company has reduced the price of cement by 1,000 Cedis per bag.

Bjarne Schmidt, the Managing Director of Ghacem, said this on Monday when he launched its new product, Ghacem Super Strength Portland Limestone Cement (PLC) Class 42.5.

He said the company would continue to produce Portland cement known as Ghacem Extra Portland Cement Class 42.5N. Dr George Dawson-Ahmoah, the Marketing Director of Ghacem, said even though the company’s monopoly in cement production was broken about four years ago it is poised to be the winning firm to lead its competitors in the cement industry.
