Saudi Southern Province awards Chinese Sinoma US$240m contract

Saudi cement producer Southern Province Cement (SPC) has awarded a contract to Chinese engineering company Sinoma for the construction of a 900 mln Saudi riyal (US$240m ) cement plant.

The cement plant, the company’s second, will be located in al-Moujarada, in the southern Saudi region of Assir. The cement plant will have a daily capacity of 5,500 tonnes. Under the agreement, signed by SPC’s board chairman Prince Khalid bin Turki al-Turki, the plant will have a power plant with a generating capacity of 59 MW, a housing complex, administrative buildings and laboratories. The project is to be completed within a 26-month period.
