Customs to decide on Russian cement imports

Customs to decide on Russian cement imports
05 August 2004

Mexican company CDM (Comercio para el Desarrollo Mexicano) is expected to submit documents by Friday (Aug.6) to the federal customs authority to receive permission to import cement from Russia, a port authority official told BNamericas.

Until then, the company cannot unload the 27,000t of cement stored on its Panamanian-flagged ship Mary Nour, which has been docked at Altamira port for nearly two weeks.

The Altamira port official said CDM tried to import foreign cement without a permit and that if customs does not extend permission, the Mary Nour will have to turn back. A CDM official could not be reached for comment Wednesday while customs could not immediately answer BNamericas’ questions.
