Votorantim expands in concrete
29 July 2004

The Brazilian cement manufacturer Votorantim Cimentos has acquired the Ceara based concrete producer Britap through the controlled Engemix. The concrete segment accounts for around 5% of the company’s turnover of R$4bil. Votorantim has been active in this segment with a 20% market share since 2002, when it took over Engemix. Britap produces 54,000 m3 per year while Engemix produces 2.7mil m3 per year. Votorantim is betting on the increase of the market in the Northeast region, where the consumption of processed concrete accounts for 12% of total.
