Brazilian fsteelmaker CSN plans to invest up to US$43.4m to build a cement plant, the company said in a note to the Sao Paulo stock exchange (Bovespa). The investment, approved by the firm’s board of directors Wednesday, would mark CSN’s return to the cement market after it sold an 8.3% minority stake
in the cement producer Cimento Ribeirão five years ago as part of its strategy to focus on its core business of steelmaking. CSN plans to build a plant for slag processing and cement grinding, it said. It will process waste from the steelmaking process.
