Dalmias plan to invest in more capacity

India: The Dalmias, which control a cement unit in Tamil Nadu and another in Orissa, is investing almost Rs900 crore to double their cement manufacturing capacity. With this, the company will come close to the present market leaders in South and East India. The Tamil Nadu-based Dalmia Cement is a niche operator in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, and Orissa Cement Ltd (OCL) is a leader in the Orissa market. OCL has embarked on a Rs400- crore expansion plan, including acquisition of an existing unit at a cost of Rs250-300 crore. OCL is also investing Rs160 crore at its existing unit to increase capacity from just over 1 million tonnes to 2 million tonnes a year. Dalmia Cement is going in for a Rs500- crore expansion programme to increase the capacity of its cement plant in Trichy, Tamil Nadu to 3.5 million tonnes per annum.
