The cement sector in Turkey’s Marmara region produced a total of 7.1Mt of cement in 2003, it was reported on March 14, 2004. Factories in Central Anatolia produced 5.766Mt of cement, followed by factories in the Black Sea region with an output of 3.963Mt. The Mediterranean region produced 3.817Mt, the Southeastern Anatolia 2.727Mt, the Aegean region 2.202Mt and Eastern Anatolia 1.545Mt. For 2003, Turkey’s total cement output stood at 28.106Mt, compared to 26.2Mt in 2002. The country’s exports rose to 7.3Mt from 5.5Mt. The increase was reportedly mainly due to the rise in exports to Iraq.
