01 March 2004

Construction of the northeastern region’s largest cement plant kicked off in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai on Sunday. The Yen Binh cement plant, which is expected to have an annual capacity of 910,000t, is a 1,160 billion VND investment of the Yen Bai Cement Joint Stock Company (YCJC). The plant, is scheduled to go on stream in December, 2005, generating 600 jobs. Equipment will be supplied from Germany, Japan and China.

Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked YCJC to ensure construction quality while saving investment costs.
He urged the provincial administration to ensure resettlement for relocated people, including construction of a new urban area prior to the plant’s operation.
The Deputy PM earlier held working sessions with Yen Bai leaders. He lauded the province’s achievements in socio-economic development, security and defence, especially its proper economic restructuring.
