Blended cement for Northern Ireland
01 March 2004

Lafarge Cement Ireland has signed an agreement with Civil and Marine Slag Cement Ltd which will increase Lafarge Cement’s range of products available in the Irish Market.  To Civil and Marine’s Ground Granulated Blastfurnace Slag (GGBS) will now be added blended cements, consisting of slag/cement blends, to be produced and marketed by Lafarge Cement.  This will add to Lafarge’s existing range of Portland cements. Up to 100,000 tonnes of blended products will be made each year at the Civil and Marine Terminal on the Belfast Harbour estate, using GGBS supplied by Civil and Marine from its Port Talbot Works in South Wales, blended with Lafarge’s cement.

Commercial director of Lafarge Cement Ireland, David Millar, said: "This new arrangement brings together the two leading players in the cementitious products market, to offer our customers a wider range of products products which can now be blended to meet the performance characteristics required.  This enhanced ability to meet our customers’ needs will also be supported by our full technical support and mix design service."
