Holcim Vietnam upbeat about its good performance and the positive market sentiment is looking to boost 2004 sales by nearly 24 per cent year-on-year to 2.6Mt.  Sales and marketing director Laurent Houmard said on the sidelines of a function held in HCMC yesterday to introduce new products that according to the company’s surveys, most agents had shown support for the Holcim brand since the company changed its name from Morning Star to Holcim.  The joint venture between Holcim and Ha Tien Cement Co is also embracing a strategy to promote sales in the Internet.

Up to 85 per cent of our sales transactions are undertaken via the Internet. We have opened some 70 accounts for our big agents to develop this trading method, said Ho Truong Lam, national sales manager of Holcim  Holcim Vietnam, also announced a major promotion program for agents and buyers of Holcim cement, which comes with eight types.

The company has a cement plant in Hon Chong in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang and a grinding station in HCMC.  Another grinding facility in Thi Vai in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau will be commissioned in the middle of this year, and the output is for sale from HCMC to Danang.  Holcim Vietnam, which was established in 1994, has now increased its pledged capital from US$233.8 million to US$441 million.
