Philippines: Union Cement Corp.’s Bulacan plant won a grand slam of three major awards in the 50th anniversary of the Philippine Mine Safety and Environmental Association (PMSEA).  UCC bagged the Presidential Mineral Industry Environment Award (PMIEA), the Safest Cement Plant and the Best Mining Forest awards. This is the highest recognition for the private sector’s initiatives and exemplary achievements in the protection of the environment.  It acknowledges a company’s outstanding level of dedication, initiative and innovation in the pursuit of excellence in environmental exploration and mining, environmental management, mine safety, reforestation program, development of host and neighboring communities and land-use improvements.  Meanwhile, the Safest Cement Plant Award is awarded for exemplary programs on occupational safety, environmental hazards of mining and its related operations.
