Blue Circle Southern Cement Ltd, Australia has placed an additional order with Humboldt Wedag Australia Pty ltd as general contractor for increasing the capacity its Waurn Ponds works in Victoria. The contracts comes less than a year after the order for a roller press and V-separator to increase cement milling capacity. The lastest upgrade will lift the existing clinker capacity from 1500tpd to 2300tpd.

Scope of supply comprises the modification of the existing air swept grinding system into a tandem grinding system with hammer mill, separator and ball mill, an additional preheater tower next to the existing preheater, the modification of the kiln, a bypass mixing chamber for 15%, a complete renovation of the clinker cooler, and a new clinker crusher.

Services and supplies of Humboldt Wedag Australia include engineering and supply of mechanical and electrical equipment, structural steel works, civil works and erection. As sub-supplier to their daughter company in Australia KHD Humboldt Wedag, Cologne is responsible for the basic engineering and delivery of key components as well as supervision of erection and commissioning.

According to the contract the upgrade of the plant will be finished within a period of 14 months. Commissioning will start in June 2004.
