The government of Bahrain has urged cement importers and local producers to operate at full capacity to satisfy growing domestic demand.

Dr Hassan Fakhro, Industry and Commerce Minister, reiterated the call as he visited Arabian Gulf Cement Company (Star Cement) in Hidd, as part of efforts to follow up economic and urban consumer issues, Mist News reports. Mr Fakhro has made similar visits to United Cement Co and Al Saqr Cement Factory.

During the meeting with Star Cement director-general Bijoy Chatterjee, he stressed the need for companies to co-operate with the government and ministry to ensure sufficient supplies.

Mr Fakhro also stressed the importance of maintaining prices at current levels, as approved during official meetings last week.
