Indonesia's domestic cement sales rose 12 per cent in April from a year ago, data from the country's biggest cement producer PT Semen Gresik Tbk showed on Tuesday.
Sales volumes in April were 4.2Mt, down 4.5 per cent from a month earlier, according to the data. Most sales were on the islands of Java and Sumatra.
For the first-quarter of 2012, cement sales were up 18.2 per cent YoY to 12.5Mt, continuing the positive growth trend. Total domestic cement sales in 2011 reached 47.9Mt, a YoY rise of 17 per cent and growth is expected to carry on this year as the country endeavors to meet its ambitious housing and infrastructure requirements.
