India: Burnpur Cement signs MOU for Patratu project

Burnpur Cement Ltd (BCL), one of the largest integrated cement plants in eastern India, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Jharkhand government for setting up an 800tpd integrated cement plant at Patratu with a total investment of about INR2bn (US$36.2m).

Following the signing of the MoU, the Jharkhand government formally allotted the limestone mines at Benti Bagda near Patratu Plant to BCL to start the mining activities there without delay.

"The first phase of construction will be completed by the end of this financial year and we plan to start our production from April, 2013, " said Mr Gutgutia. With a turnover of INR51.95bn in FY11-12, BCL had recorded 68 per cent jump from the figure of the previous year, he said and hoped to record 100 per cent growth in sales during this year.

Marketing its product under the brand name of "Burnpur Cement", BCL is currently building a plant at Asansol with installed capacity of 1000tpd.
