US September shipments dip YoY

Total shipments of portland and blended cement in the United States and Puerto Rico for September 2012 were about 7Mt, slightly less than September 2011, figures from the US Geological Survey show. However, shipments for the year through September were 59.6Mt, up by about 10 per cent.

Production

The leading producing states in September were Texas, Missouri, California, Michigan, and Florida, in descending order and accounted for about 42 per cent of total output. The leading consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Ohio, and Illinois, in descending order) received about 35 per cent of the September total shipments.

Clinker production totaled about 6Mt in September, about three per cent more than output in September 2011. Production for the year through September was 49.9Mt, up by about nine per cent. The leading clinker-producing states in September were Texas, California, Missouri, Florida, and Alabama, in descending order.

Imports

September 2012 imports of cement and clinker of about 676,000t were 31 per cent more than those in September 2011. Imports for the year through September were 5.23 Mt, up by about 10 per cent.
