Vietnam: cement plant project licence withdrawn
18 February 2014

Authorities of the Quang Tri province in central Vietnam are to withdraw the investment licence of a cement plant project due to sluggish implementation.

Construction of the 1.2Mta Roli-Quang Tri cement plant started in June 2009 but was subsequently delayed as the company was unable to continue with the project, stated Nguyen Duc Cuong, chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung earlier approved a proposal by the Vietnam Building Material Association to cancel nine cement projects with total capacity of 2500tpd of clinker to keep in line with market demand.

Accordingly, the following nine cement projects will be removed from the country's master plan for cement industry: Ha Tien-Kien Giang, Truong Son- Ro Li, Hop Son, Ngoc Ha, Vinafuji Lao Cai, Thanh Truong, Son Duong, Quang Minh and Cao Bang.

The PM also agreed to extend the deadline for the construction of seven other projects: He Duong II, My Duc, Thanh Son, Tan Thang, Do Luong, Tan Phu Xuan and Nam Dong to after 2015. (Source: Vietnam News Brief Service)
