Welcoming senior industry specialists from the domestic cement sector and beyond, Renato Jose Giusti of the Associação Brasiliera De Cimento Portland (ABCP), expressed the importance of the cement industry in Brazil, claiming it to be the second most consumed product of the country, second only to water!

Jose Otavio De Carvalho, president of the Sindicato Nacional da Indústria do Cimento (SNIC), then gave a brief overview of the current status of the Brazilian cement industry which today is seeing moderate but steady levels of growth. His presentation paved the way for a further 50 papers on the themes of competitiveness, emissions, environmental controls, cement standardisation and quality.

This is the first time this major conference and exhibition has been held in Brazil since 1999. The three-day event also features a 40-stand exhibition area showcasing the latest innovations available to the cement industry.
