New cement plant for Venezuela to be inaugurated
07 July 2014

The Iranian Mines and Mining Development and Renovation Organisation (IMIDRO) is to inaugurate a cement plant in Venezuela within the next few months, says Mehdi Karbasian, IMIDRO's managing director. The Iranian organisation has provided technical services and engineering to the greenfield plant in Servasul.

The 1Mta factory was instigated by IMIDRO after signing an agreement to establish the cement plant in Venezuela in 2012. However, construction was halted due to a budget deficit, said Mehdi Karbasian, who is also Iran’s deputy minister of industry, mines and commerce.

Iran exported around 18Mt of cement to 24 countries, including Iraq, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Georgia, Oman, India and China in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on 20 March 2014. The country is ranked first in the Middle East and third in the world in terms of cement exports.
