05 September 2014

Vietnamese Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung, has approved a proposal by the country’s Ministry of Construction to cancel five cement projects from the industry’s Master Plan 2011-2020.

The five projects, which have a combined capacity of 0.91Mta, are Cao Duong, Cho Moi, Viet Duc, Long Tho and Ngan Son.

The government leader earlier had approved a proposal by the Vietnam Building Material Association to remove nine cement projects from planning to keep capacity in line with demand. The projects, each with a slated capacity of 2500tpd are: Thanh Son, Tan Phu Xuan, Tan Tao, Yen Mao, Sai Gon Tan Ky, Phu Son, My Duc, Nam Dong and Minh Tam.

He has agreed to extend the deadline of seven other projects and added Long Son Cement plant in Thanh Hoa province to the Master Plan. The 2.3Mta plant is due to start operations in 2018.
