Philippine full-year cement sales up 9.6%

Philippine cement sales increased by 9.6 per cent YoY in 2014, Ernesto M Ordonez, president of the Cement Manufacturers’ Association of the Philippines (CeMAP), confirms.

Sales by producers in the local market by end-2104 reached 21.3Mt compared to 19.44Mt in the previous year. The Southeast Asian country also saw a jump in 4Q14 sales which increased by 15.7 per cent to 5.21Mt.

The increase in sales is being supported by continuous growth in construction projects. Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) shows that construction activity in the first nine months of 2014 rose 39 per cent to  PHP272bn versus PHP196bn in the comparative period of the year before. Non-residential projects accounted for PHP143bn while residential project were around PHP108bn.
