Savanna Diamond Cement launches new Ghana plant

Savanna Diamond Cement Co Ltd (SDCL) launched operations of its 0.44Mta cement factory in Buipe, in the northern region of Ghana. The new US$90m project was officially inaugurated by President John Mahama of Ghana.

The SDCL plant is a fully integrated process, using limestone mined in Buipe. It is served through a partnership with GRIDCo by a 25MW substation, of which SDCL will use 7MW and the remaining 18MW will serve the local community.

President Mahama commended management of Savanna Diamond Cement, stating that the government will continue to support the company.

During the inauguration, the managing director, Prasad Mortapati added that SDCL is one of the three cement factories by the group, with the other two being Diamond Cement Ghana Ltd (DCGL) and Aflao and Western Diamond Cement Ltd, Takoradi.
