Siam Cement Group (SCG), Thailand's largest industrial conglomerate, has confirmed Roongrote Rangsiyopash is in line to be its next president, the Bangkok Post reports.

The SCG board agreed to maintain Mr Roongrote's position as executive vice-president and end his top position at SCG Paper as well as announce the promotion of two other SCG executives to replace Mr Roongrote.

"It is a process that we've been planning for several years, and it's clear the company wants Mr Roongrote to replace me, as he is one of the company's more competent resources," said Mr Trakulhoon, SCG's current chief executive and president, who will retire at year-end. "Mr Roongrote is expected to oversee all SCG businesses from now on."

Mr Roongrote will end his tenure as president of SCG Paper on 1 July.

Mr Kan said Mr Roongrote had successfully run several of the company's businesses before being officially promoted to the latest position of SCG Paper president. Mr Roongrote joined SCG after graduating from university in 1985.

His professional experience extends from production and sales to management and planning, in both domestic and foreign markets. He was also a director of Thai-German Industry Plc and PTT Chemical Plc.

The board also approved the appointment of Tanawong Areeratchakul as president of SCG Paper. He will move from his current position of vice-president for corporate administration.

Yuttana Jiamtragan has also been appointed SCG's vice-president for corporate administration. He will end his current position as business group head of compound and formulation of SCG Chemicals.
