Following the domestic cement industry’s plea to end imports in to the Republic of Congo, the country’s Minister of Trade and Conumption, Landry Euloge Kolélas, said that halting imports would be subject to producers being able to cover the entire national territory.
“While the number of cement companies has grown, being now five, awaiting the entry of Dangote Cement and Diamond Cement, we cannot completely halt imports yet as cement companies have not shown that they are willing to cover the entire national market requirement,” he said.
Moreover, he also pointed out that CIMAF can be considered an importer as it imports raw materials from Morocco and said that the company, like other producers, only delivers in major cities.
