Delays in offloading clinker at Chittagong following marine incident

Delays in the offloading of clinker have been experienced at Bangladesh's Chittagong Port after bulk carrier Ocean Phoenix, laden with 45,000t of clinker on board, started to drift on the outer anchorage, after her anchor dragged. The vessel then made contact with the anchored stern of bulk carrier Green Phoenix, which was also loaded with 54,500t of clinker.

Both vessels sustained damages, and are being surveyed and repaired followed by complete offloading, according to industry sources and local media.

Chittagong Port says these clinker-laden vessels arrived from Thailand and Singapore, respectively.

With its limited limestone reserves, clinker imports into Bangladesh have been rising. According to industry source, the delay in offloading cargo from the two vessels would not affect cement production in Bangladesh as over 27 vessels are waiting at the outer anchorage point to offload cargo.
