Udayapur Cement Industry of Nepal has fired 82 members of staff who had been repeatedly warned for their below par performance. The staff included drivers, officers and engineers.

Administration Department head of UCI Ram Bahadur GC said the staffers were fired as they failed to discharge their duties. He claimed that the staffers were relieved of their duties also after consulting with trade unions and employees’ welfare associations.

"Those staffers who never marked their attendance, who never reported to duty regularly and who consumed alcohol while in duty have been fired," GC said.

UCI general manager, Surendra Paudel, said the employees were removed as per the prevailing Act.

Chakra Bahadur Karki, a unionist said it was a positive move for UCI to remove its irresponsible staff members. “It has more irresponsible employees still working there and they should be removed, too”, Karki said.
