The Colombian Construction Chamber of Commerce (CAMACOL) awarded Cemex’s Bloqueras Solidarias program the Community Prize for Best Management in recognition of its efforts to help low-income families build their own homes.

The CAMACOL awarded Cemex Colombia the Community Prize for Best Management in recognition of its efforts under the Bloqueras Solidarias initiative. Ricardo Naya, President of Cemex Colombia, received the award from Juan Manuel Santos, President of Colombia.

Through Bloqueras Solidarias, Cemex offers low-income families the technology, training, and raw materials needed for the construction of cement blocks that are later used for building or improving these families’ homes. In 2016 alone, over 110 Colombian families benefited from this program, which provided access to more than 80 safe and affordable houses.

“It is an honour for Cemex to receive such a prestigious recognition,” said Ricardo Naya, President of Cemex Colombia. “This reinforces our commitment to initiatives that improve the quality of life of the country’s most vulnerable citizens.”

In the past, other important organizations have recognized Cemex’s Bloqueras Solidarias program, including the UN, which granted this initiative the UN-HABITAT Award in the Accessible Housing Solutions category in 2009 and further recognized its contributions to achieving the Millennium Development Goals in 2010.
