Klaipeda terminal expansion to boost Akmenes Scandinavian exports

Klaipeda terminal expansion to boost Akmenes Scandinavian exports
20 September 2017

The cement loading terminal under development at the port of Klaipeda, Lithuania, will enable Akmenes Cementas to boost its exports to Scandinavia, according to business daily Verslo Zinios.

"It will make it easier to hold talks with potential buyers in Scandinavia, as our response to their needs will be more flexible and timely. We will be able to gradually accumulate cement at the terminal, we will not have to bring the entire amount needed for the ship by train cars at a time, as this is rather difficult," said Arturas Zaremba, CEO of Akmenes Cementas.

The terminal is being expanded by Bega, who plans to build a 4000t silo by the end of the year, followed by a similar one next year.

Akmenes Cementas currently ships around 150,000tpa of cement to Scandinavia. The expanded terminal will allow the company to raise such exports to 200,000t.
