ENCI, based in The Netherlands, has shut down its kiln after 91 years of operation. The event, which was carried out in the night of 29 March 2019, was low-key.
The plant’s limestone quarry in Sint-Pietersberg, South Limburg, will now be a home to rare insects. Until 2018 the cement producer quarried limestone for the works’ kiln line. However, on 1 January 2020, the 120h site will pass to the management of Natuurmonumenten.
