After receiving approval to acquire Cemtech Ltd, Tanzania’s Simba Cement has announced plans to construct the Ortum Cement project that Cemtech had struggled to get off the ground.
The project in West Pokot County, Kenya, was due to start in 2010. However, due to the recent developments, work is now expected to begin within a year. Construction is scheduled to take 18 months to complete.
Simba Cement is currently seeking an audience with the residents of Sebi, where the plant will be built, with the company expected to mine a 650-acre piece of land in the Ortum belt.
