Indonesian cement sales edge up 3% in 2M19

Total cement deliveries by Indonesian cement producers advanced 2.6 per cent in the first two months of 2019 to 11.216Mt when compared with 10.93Mt in the 2M18, according to the latest data from the Indonesian Cement Association, ASI.

While domestic sales were only 0.3 per cent higher YoY at 10.547Mt in January-February 2019, export sales during the period. surged by 62 per cent YoY to 668,815t. Of total export sales, 419,725t were exported as clinker, up 53.1 per cent YoY. Cement exports increased 79.8 per cent to 249,090t in the first two months of 2019.

Domestic sales
The Java market remained stable in the 2M19 at around 5.858Mt although the relatively-small Yogyakarta area saw volumes surge by 50 per cent to 248,234t. Within Java, growth was strongest in West Java where deliveries were up 8.1 per cent YoY to 1.644Mt. On Banten, market expansion was robust with volumes increasing by 4.2 per cent YoY to 535,602t. Jakarta fared less well as sales dropped 13.5 per cent YoY to 703,472t while Central Java noted a 6.8 per cent YoY decline in sales to 1.644Mt.

Elsewhere in Indonesia sales were healthy in Nusa Tenggara where cement producers supplied 593,317t of cement, up 10 per cent YoY. A more modest increase of 3.1 per cent YoY was seen in Kalimantan, where off-take reached 716,144t. In contrast the Sumatra market, the second-largest in the country, contracted by 2.6 per cent YoY to 2.217Mt. Sales remained more or less stable in Sulawesi (870,904t) and eastern Indonesia (291,054t).
