Power Cement Ltd has announced that it is installing a 12MW waste heat recovery (WHR) power plant, which is expected to be operational later this year at the company's plant site in Deh Kalo Kohar, Nooriabad Industrial Estate, District Dadu (Sindh). Currently, 100 per cent of the plant's power requirement is being fulfilled through the electricity grid, according to Power Cement.

Earlier, the company disclosed that it successfully installed 8500tpd (2.5Mta) of cement capacity on its existing site (earlier cement capacity of 0.9Mta). The project benefits from highly-efficient process technology, resulting in power and fuel (coal) savings of 38kWh/t and 26kg/t, respectively.

The management expects the new plant to achieve a utilisation level of 70 per cent by FY21‐22. Output from the facility will be sold to domestic and export markets. The company has already negotiated exports contracts/established relationships with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Mozambique and Somalia to export both clinker and cement.
