Hongshi-Shivam Cement tops strength tests in Nepal

In just two years of operation Hongshi-Shivam Cement has claimed 60 per cent of the Nawalparasi district market in Nepal. The successful Chinese-owned plant had a total investment of US$350m and produces 6000tpd of cement and has quickly risen in popularity with consumers.

The reason for the attractiveness of Hongshi Cement's product is in the brand's cement strength and quality. Tests from multiple Nepali institutes showed that Hongshi-Shivam Cement came out top among cement produced in Nepal scoring almost twice as high as competing brands. Clinker from the factory is also now shipped to more than 80 per cent of cement grinding companies in Nepal.

It is estimated that the 2Mta cement plant has not only filled the gap in Nepal's cement production but has saved approximately US$200m for Nepal in foreign exchange.
