Askari seeks minning lease approval

Askari Cement Ltd (ACL) has submitted  an application to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Government of Punjab to seek environment approval under section 12 Punjab Environment Protection Act 1997 for mining of limestone at Wah and  Hassan Abdal, Rawalpindi Attock district in Punjab province, Pakistan.

According to a public notification, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Government of Punjab has invited comments from all stakeholders and the general public for their comments before it grants environmental approval. The public hearing will be conducted on 26 August, to receive public comments and later award the mining lease.

Established in 1921, Askari Cement Ltd is one of the leading cement manufacturers in Pakistan. At present the company operates two plants: one is located in Wah, Punjab, and the other in Nizampur (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), with a combined production capacity of 2.67Mta. The company exports cement to South Africa, Sudan, UAE and Afghanistan.
