The Al-Qaim cement plant has reached its full design capacity of 840,000tpa, increasing domestic cement supply while expanding exports to neighbouring Syria, according to Iraq’s Ministry of Industry and Minerals.
The plant is now producing around 70,000tpm of sulphate-resistant cement, supplying Anbar province and other regions of Iraq. It also exports approximately 7500tpm of cement to Syria.
Zuhair Dawood Ahmed, Director General of the General Company for Iraqi Cement, said the facility, which is operated in partnership with Al-Maysarah Group, has been modernised with upgraded production equipment, a centralised control system and quality control laboratories.
The plant also operates a dedicated 30MW power station, enabling continuous production independent of the national electricity grid.
The Ministry of Industry said the achievement supports Iraq's strategy to strengthen domestic manufacturing, reduce reliance on imports and increase non-oil exports through higher cement production.
