India’s Telangana Forest Department has ordered NagarJuna Cement to remove structures and vacate 12 acres and six guntas (approximately 4.9ha) of land at Mattapalli in Suryapet district.
The District Forest Department identified the site, in Survey No 88, as part of the Sultanpur Reserve Forest following an examination of Revenue, Survey and Forest Department records.
Officials reported several structures associated with the cement operation on the land, including a security room, pump house, workers’ sheds, compound wall, fencing and a cement road. The company reportedly maintains that it purchased the land.
