Bolivian cement producer Soboce SA is converting non-recyclable waste into alternative fuel for use at its Viacha cement plant.
Deputy Minister of Sustainable Industrialisation Policies and Handicrafts Gustavo Jáuregui Gonzáles visited the facility to review the process, which initially separates recyclable materials before conditioning the remaining waste for use as an alternative fuel in cement kilns.
The project is intended to progressively substitute conventional fuels while reducing the volume of waste requiring final disposal.
The Bolivian government said wider deployment of such projects would require improved waste collection, separation and recovery systems, supported by greater coordination between public institutions, municipalities and the private sector.
