Siam City Cement PLC (SCCC) is considering an expansion of its Hon Chong cement plant in Vietnam’s An Giang province.
The plans were discussed during a meeting between Vietnamese Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc and SCCC General Director Ranjan Sachdeva in Hanoi on 10 September. The proposed development would include second and third production lines, although their capacities, investment value and construction timetable were not disclosed.
SCCC operates in Vietnam through INSEE Vietnam. The company said it intends to use modern production technology in the expansion and comply with applicable regulatory requirements.
Mr Sachdeva reaffirmed SCCC’s commitment to increasing production capacity and making long-term investments in Vietnam. The company also plans to increase its use of alternative raw materials and reduce clinker consumption to conserve mineral resources and limit environmental impacts.
Mr Tuc encouraged SCCC to expand its investment and promote circular production practices. He also called on the company to work with the An Giang authorities on mineral extraction, environmental protection, employment and freight transportation, while increasing its contribution to the provincial budget.
