Cement imports amounted to 1.168Mtin the first five months of 2026, up 4.5 per cent YtD, while exports were 433,537t, down 33.1 per cent YtD.

Federbeton notes that construction production rose two per cent YtD in first five months of 2026, versus four per cent growth in the same period of 2025.

Outlook
The decline in cement volumes largely reflects a slowdown in infrastructure construction as spending under the EU Recovery and Resilience Fund comes to an end this year. A recovery in residential construction will provide a positive lift to cement volumes but will struggle to offset the decline in infrastructure construction.
