Hepworth has secured independent certification for its HepCem calcined clay, confirming conformity with BS 8615-1:2019+A1:2026 for use as a pozzolanic material with Portland cement in concrete, mortar and grout.
Awarded by Construction Products Certification (CPC), the certification covers production at Hepworth’s Crow Edge site in Sheffield, UK. It was authorised on 24 August 2026 following assessments of factory production control, product type testing and manufacturing processes, with no corrective action required.
The certification supports the commercial launch of HepCem, a supplementary cementitious material developed for lower-clinker cement and concrete formulations. Its development draws on more than 40 years of Hepworth’s experience in clay mineral selection, thermal activation and processing.
“With certification now in place, we are ready to work with cement and concrete producers looking to evaluate calcined clay within lower-clinker formulations,” said Daniel Hannappel, Hepworth CEO.
Hepworth says domestic production offers an additional source of supplementary cementitious material as fly ash and GGBS face increasing supply pressures. Certification includes ongoing factory production control surveillance and sample testing, providing producers with independent assurance of product conformity.
