Turkey’s Çimko, part of SANKO Holding, has signed an agreement with Syrian state cement company OMRAN to redevelop and operate the damaged Al-Muslimiyah cement works near Aleppo.

The approximately US$200m project will be implemented under a 30-year build-operate-transfer arrangement. The agreement was signed on 1 October.

According to Syria’s official news agency SANA, the programme includes a new 5000tpd clinker line, targeted for commissioning within 12 months of site handover. Rehabilitation of the existing works will follow.

Çimko puts the project’s eventual production capacity at 1.5Mta of clinker and 2Mta of cement. The investment is intended to support local cement supply for reconstruction and infrastructure development.

The site-handover date has not been disclosed.
