Sri Lankan construction conglomerate Melwa has invested LKR6bn (US$18.2m) in a cement mixing and packaging facility at Seeduwa. Construction is complete, with products expected to enter the market before the end of 2026.
The facility will process imported materials, including clinker and gypsum, using enclosed conveying, milling and storage systems. Melwa plans to supply ordinary Portland, Portland-pozzolana, Portland-slag and Portland-limestone cements.
The company expects the project to create more than 250 direct and indirect jobs. It also intends to explore export opportunities and anticipates a return on investment within approximately five years
