Swiss cement deliveries to Switzerland and Liechtenstein increased by one per cent YoY to 988,702t in the third quarter of 2026 from 978,929t in the 3Q25, according to industry association cemsuisse. The association said the performance continued the trend of recent quarters and supported a positive outlook for the final quarter of the year.
Of the total, ready-mix concrete plants accounted for around 72.9 per cent of deliveries, supplied predominantly in bulk, in the 3Q26. Since the start of 2026, 20.9 per cent of deliveries have gone to on-site batching plants, which commonly serve major infrastructure projects. Concrete products accounted for 4.8 per cent of deliveries.
With deliveries of 2,731,666t reduced-clinker cements (CEM II) now represent more than 98 per cent of total deliveries, with their sales increasing further compared with the previous year, when their share was 97.1 per cent (2,684,658t). CEM I cement accounts for just 1.3 per cent, or 37,014t, falling from 2.2 per cent (61,664t) in the 3Q25. Cemsuisse highlighted continued investment in reducing product CO2 emissions as the industry works towards its net-zero target.
Meanwhile, rail’s share of cement transport fell by 2.5 percentage points YoY to 31.5 per cent as 878,373t of cement were transported this way. The association attributed the decline to difficult operating conditions for single-wagon freight services, which are prompting producers to shift deliveries to road transport.
Cemsuisse Director, Stefan Vannoni, expressed regret over the decline, saying it ran counter to the industry’s efforts to decarbonise production and transport. The association has raised its concerns about rail freight in recent consultations on Swiss freight transport and long-term transport planning.
