Cement consumption in Brazil fell 5.7 per cent YoY to 5.743Mt in September 2026 when compared with September 2025, when 6.088Mt was sold in the domestic market, according to Brazil’s cement association, SNIC.

In the southeast, the country’s largest cement market, sales fell 13.5 per cent YoY to 2.401Mt from 2.776Mt in September 2025, but sales grew by 5.7 per cent in the northeast to 1.403Mt from 1.327Mt. The smaller southern market saw a 6.8 per cent YoY drop to 0.924Mt in September 2026 from 0.991Mt, while sales in the mid-west slipped 2.7 per cent YoY to 0.690Mt from 0.709Mt over the same period. In the north, the market grew by 14 per cent YoY to 0.325Mt from 0.285Mt.

A robust labour market and rising real estate sales supported cement demand during this period. In addition, the unemployment rate stood at 5.3 per cent for the quarter ending in August, the lowest for this period since the survey began in 2012 and the number of jobs in building construction grew by 4.1 per cent.

In terms of downside factors, pressure on household budgets is limiting consumption and the Selic rate remains at 13.75 per cent per year, raising the cost of mortgages and increasing competition between financial assets and real estate investments. Debt servicing remains high at 49.86 per cent of household income.

Exports remained level at 5000t in September 2026 when compared with the year-ago period.
