Eqiom has proposed increasing annual waste-treatment capacity at its SAPPHIRE alternative-fuel preparation facility in Saint-Étienne-du-Vauvray, France, from 44,000t to 60,000t, a rise of approximately 36 per cent.
The facility prepares alternative fuels primarily for the company’s Lumbres cement works, supporting its K6 modernisation programme. The proposed expansion would principally involve longer operating periods, with working days increasing from 220 to 280 annually, including Saturday operations.
Daily treatment capacity would rise more modestly, from 204t to 214t. The proposal illustrates the additional fuel-preparation infrastructure required to support greater substitution of conventional kiln fuels.
Public consultation opened on 19 October and closes on 2 November. The proposed capacity increase remains subject to the relevant regulatory process.
