Spain’s cement consumption increased by 4.7 per cent YoY to 11.02Mt in the first eight months of 2026, according to the latest cement statistics released by Oficemen. Growth moderated from 7.2 per cent in the 1H26 as demand declined during July and August.
Consumption fell by 1.6 per cent YoY to 1.54Mt in July and by 5.2 per cent to 1.13Mt in August. Combined demand for the two months was more than 86,000t below the corresponding period of 2025.
“These figures reflect the moderation in cement consumption that we anticipated for the second half and highlighted at mid-year. We believe this slowdown will become more pronounced over the coming months, with full-year growth ending at around two per cent,” said Oficemen Director General, Elena Guede.
On a rolling 12-month basis, consumption reached 17.15Mt in September 2025-August 2026, up nine per cent YoY, or approximately 1.4Mt. However, the growth rate was four percentage points below that recorded at the end of the first half.
Spanish cement exports declined by 15.2 per cent YoY to 2.64Mt in January-August 2026, a reduction of 472,327t.
Exports fell by 13.3 per cent in July and 22.4 per cent in August, with combined volumes for the two months down by approximately 146,500t compared with the same period in 2025.
For the rolling 12 months to August 2026, exports decreased by 17.1 per cent to 4.03Mt, down 830,666t from the preceding 12-month period.
