Buzzi Unicem net profit down on declines in Central Europe, Italy

Buzzi Unicem said on Thursday it posted an attributable net loss of EUR28.5m in 2012 compared with a profit of EUR27m in 2011, due to declines in Central Europe and a major slowdown of building activity in its domestic market of Italy. Dyckerhoff net profit down on European markets

Buzzi Unicem's subsidiary Dyckerhoff has confirmed that net profit in 2012 fell as declines in Europe could not be offset by volume increases in Russia and the USA. Buzzi Unicem turnover edged ahead by 0.9 per cent last year to €2813m, of which Dyckerhoff contributed an almost unchanged €1603m. Buzzi Unicem's turnover for the first nine months was up by 1.7 per cent to €2,146.3m and the EBITDA increased by 11.7 per cent to €368.7m. Brokerage Equita expects Italian cement maker Buzzi Unicem to report a 21 per cent rise in EBTIDA for the first nine months of 2012 to EUR177m. USA: Buzzi Unicem trials use of hazardous waste fuel at Cape Girardeau plant

A series of trials is underway at Buzzi Unicem’s Cape Girardeau cement facility in an effort to use more hazardous waste as fuel. The company invested US$1m in the project, aimed at cutting its operating expenses by replacing more of its coal with alternative fuels.
